Jonas Nickel

Jonas Nickel is a global health consultant, paramedic, and researcher specializing in health systems strengthening, emergency medical care, neglected tropical diseases, and snakebite envenoming in East Africa. With extensive field experience across the region, he works at the intersection of policy, research, and implementation, supporting governments, healthcare institutions, international organizations, and development partners in addressing complex public health challenges. His work focuses on translating scientific evidence into practical, sustainable solutions that strengthen healthcare systems and improve access to essential health services.

Jonas has developed particular expertise in snakebite envenoming, one of the world's most neglected tropical diseases. Through clinical research, health system assessments, stakeholder engagement, healthcare worker training, and antivenom access initiatives, he has contributed to efforts aimed at improving snakebite prevention, treatment, surveillance, and policy development across East Africa.

As the founder of several initiatives focused on snakebite management and global health, he has worked closely with healthcare providers, academic institutions, ministries of health, and international partners to strengthen local capacities and improve patient outcomes in underserved communities. Alongside his international work, Jonas serves as a practicing paramedic and clinical educator in Germany. His combination of frontline emergency care experience and global health expertise enables him to provide recommendations that are both evidence-based and operationally feasible.

Through Nickel Global Health Consulting, Jonas provides strategic advisory services, technical expertise, project development support, stakeholder engagement, training, and health systems analysis, with a particular focus on East Africa, snakebite envenoming, neglected tropical diseases, and emergency medical systems.

His mission is to support governments, international organizations, academic institutions, and implementing partners in developing effective, sustainable, and equitable health solutions for populations facing some of the world's most neglected health challenges.
